The journal welcomes all critical approaches and publishes full-length articles as well as shorter notes, book reviews, bibliographical updates, panel discussions, and professional postings about conferences, calls for papers, scholarships, and other items of interest pertaining to Updike. Electronic submissions via email are preferable. Please send submissions to James Schiff at james.schiff@uc.edu.

Receipt of your manuscript will be acknowledged. Decisions take between 8 and 12 weeks. Submissions are reviewed by an editorial board comprised of Updike scholars and others knowledgeable on Updike and his writings. Work considered for publication is generally subjected to blind peer review by two outside readers.

Guidelines:

  1. The journal welcomes full-length essays, approximately 20 to 30 pages, or 5,000 to 7,500 words. The journal also considers shorter notes of approximately 10 pages, or 2,500 words or less.
  2. A brief abstract of approximately 50 words should accompany each submission.
  3. Manuscripts should be double-spaced and conform to the current edition of The MLA Style Manual (parenthetical citation, discursive endnotes only, works cited).
  4. Please provide author identification on a separate cover sheet.

Articles may also be submitted through regular mail. If regular mail is used, please submit 2 copies of the manuscript to:
